Snippets II

So I'm five days into 29, and so far, so good.
Except that I'm not married, I don't have my own home, my career is at somewhat of a standstill and I still haven't been to Australia. And next year's 30. Dizzamn.
- - - - -
All my life, I've hung out with people older than I am. I didn't get along well with kids my age, so my friends were always older. That all changed when I moved back here from college. Now, I'm among the oldest in my 'group' of friends. I don't mind it one bit -- in fact, sometimes I hardly notice it.
But then, of course, there are days I REALLY notice it. And it trips me out that I know people so young. That my schedule becomes extra busy between Dec. 9 - Jan. 13, when the college kids come back to visit. That there are people I know who were in the single-digits when we were in the midst of 1990's Gulf War. Also dizzamn.
- - - - -
Facebook is so aggravatingly addictive.
- - - - -
My aunt and cousin have been staying with us since the New Year -- they're visiting from the US. This is my mom's sister and her daughter, and as most of you know, my mama isn't Kuwaiti; this is their first time in the country.
To be honest, I'm somewhat disappointed by their reaction to Kuwait. I was expecting them to be a little more 'wowed' by us, I think. Is that weird? I feel like if you're making your way to Kuwait for the very first time ever, your reaction to it should hold a little more 'oomph.'
I just wanted once to hear them say, "Whoa -- why all the Starbucks chains?" Or, "How random -- is Ruby Tuesdays really that big here?" Or maybe, "Haha, neat! Desperate Housewives on billboards!" Or even, "Daaamn, nice cars."
Again, is that weird? I don't think I would have expected Kuwait to be the way Kuwait is if I wasn't from here or living here.
They dug Mbarkiya, though.
- - - - -
Time for a vacation. London? :D
- - - - -
And finally, if Jack Handy married Andy Capp, then married Jack Paar, then moved on to Stephen King, he'd be Jack Handy Capp Paar King.

First of all stop thinking about next year.
Second of all i can totally relate with the age thing. I always used to be "The Baby of the Group" and that is any possible group ever....lately i find that i am "The Grandmama of the Group" more and more often!
Totally annoying!
Sick of being the 'wise' one.
Mo layigly!
Young and stupid is so in!
Ditto on facebook!
Mo ma3qola they didnt say anything about the cars...lol lately thats been the only thing we have going for ouselves :P

baby, you're 29, no husband, no kids, between States and Kuwait, come and go as you please...oh, what a rough life :) come on, enjoy it, you're living THE life...the rest will come when it comes, and career? who needs one, we have oil :)
i know what you mean, all of a sudden i became older than many people :) i used to be younger than many people, i liked it better then :)
your aunt and cousin didn't find Kuwait that different from the States probably, that's why no "wow" reaction, take them to a parliament session, you'll get "what the heck" kind of reaction :)
vacation: south Africa??
and no, don't marry some one of your age, marry a much older guy...they spoil well :)
best to you

Shoppy,
7ayyach ubooy!

DR,
Hahahaha, I'm so glad I'm not alone. Grandma of the Group :( wai3.
Not even the cars, imagine! Nothing. Not one single 'oh, look at ___' comment. I'm baffled.

Karma,
Thank you :) Will Liz Hurley and her beau be there BECAUSE I'm coming? Cause that's kinda hot.

Ali,
I looked for you, but nothing came up. itgu9 3alay chithee ashkara? :P

swair,
I AM happy, but the pressure to be what people want me to be is making me miserable slowly but surely. :/
Heeh, mafee a7ad NOT on Facebook, it seems.

White Wings,
I know that technically you're right, and the minute I get married I'm going to probably regret it for the rest of my life, but what can I say? I'm what my friends like to refer to as the 'khalif tu3raf' girl :P

Haha, maybe I SHOULD take them to a Parliament session! Too bad they weren't here when we brought the house down.

South Africa would be diviiiiine. (but so would London! <3)

You totally won me over with the 'spoiling' line. :D Older it is!

Jewaira,
Thank you very much :*

Mitsuki,
That was so incredibly sweet! Thank you :)
I think the prospect of being 29 was a lot scarier than the actual thing. I'm totally okay with it.

... thanks, in part, to the fine art of lying. As far as anyone's concerned, I'm 24. :D

Yalla London?

East or West - London is the best!

If I were you I wouldn't travel to South Africa on my own. They say you need to buy insurance for rape when booking a holiday to SA; Joburg especially.
That said the Brits can themselves do a right job raping your happiness at immigration in Heathrow. But that's beside the point.
So you are only 29, are you? You have a full life ahead of you :the best is yet to come.

The Oberoi Cecil Shimla it is for me this season. Don't know why the fixation with everyone for London?!
Besides, Shimla is only pleasantly cool for this time of year.

Zed,
Seriouslah. I work 10 hours a day and... Facebook 10 hours a day as well.

It's an illness. A beautiful, happy-place illness.

Faisal,
Hi, are you my brother?

Yeah, I kinda forget I have this blog sometimes... as is evident by the date of my last post.

Was the tea spat (spat? really?) in disgust, or because I'm damn funny?

Scream,
I don't think I'd be able to handle South Africa on my own, anyway. I have an inexplicable fear of getting lost.

No immigration laws for me! My parents assumed their first born was going to want to be a world traveler, and had me in the States. Yay for no-visa requirements. :D

Chikita,
I know, I've been a complete slacker lately, but it's because work (okay, Facebook) is kicking my butt. New post soon, promise!

Dad's been busy working on the final touches of Part 2. I'll keep you updated, promise.

London soon, London soon!

Ananyah,
Yeeehehehe, hi :*

Dude -- I hate sun. I hate daylight. I hate heat. TAKE ME TO SNOW.

Twilight,
But it's so puuurdy.

But fine.. I'm so desperate for vacation, Yemen sounds good right now.

Hey, what's age got to do with anything?
Keep travellin' as if there is no tomorrow. And the more you take the road less well travelled the younger you begin to feel..Ajanta-Ellora, Angkor Wat, Machu Picchu, the Galapagos,Kandy to name but a few - do it now or never.
